Simple truth: we lack quality
No matter whose fault it is,the simple truth is that we only have 4-5 players who can compete at the highest level and these are Couyate,Sakho,Adrian,Valencia and perhaps,Carroll. Even Murinho couldn't make the rest of them look batter.Live with it!

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
No balance to the team and a fair few players are simply not good enough. Plus the usual scenario of being too thin on the ground and injured strikers. Fucking Carlton will be be getting a new deal at this rate. Whilst we won't go down, we'll be in the mix if we keep losing at home to fucking teams that will be in the relegation scrap.

1)Payet: ok I would also include him in the quality set,if he proves he can stand the pace of the premiership
2) Re last season's pre Xmas results: you lot seem to be forgetting that out top two players during that spell were Downing and Song, both sadly missing now,and both top drawer players

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
I think too many of us misunderstand what quality really means, someone playing in the right position and formation looks quality but ask him to do something else he looks pony so much that a bang average player looks better than them.

Over the last few seasons it almost appears that the manager has had a playing style that the transfer policy of the owners didn't appear to much so ended up with no real identity throughout the club and a squad that reflects that.

I don't care who the manager is but without throwing money at it there is not instant fix in turning that squad into something much different to BFS would do without struggling first and the realistic prospect of relegation.

Given time these things can happen without spending big but time is something rarely given in the Premier League and in fact most of clubs who have done it this way have laid the foundations outside of it.

Our squad does lack the necessary quality for someone like Bilic to do a job being asked of him something I am sure Benitez would have pointed out had I rolled up here but it what it does have enough about it is for someone like BFS to keep us up.

Either the owners are going to allow the manager time to make this changes even if it means relegation in the short term or else they need to find some quick solutions to help them otherwise we might as well kept BFS on.

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
Ludicrous to say Bilic gave Nolan another chance. his choice of Nolan was forced on him by circumstances. Has Bilic chosen Nolan when he has had a full deck of cards at his disposal?

Even an amoeba with learning difficulties would not have suggested that.

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
Knee-jerk rubbish! Modern fans are shit.

We let in 4 goals from individual errors by defenders. That is not the manager's fault unless it becomes a habit. Cresswell and Jenks were two of our best players last year so does the manager drop them to bring in who next week exactly?

Ogbonna is a beast but we were all warned about him by Juventus fans. He has no urgency or positional sense in his game. I doubt he was Bilic's first choice as we know he was on Gold's iPhone before Bilic joined. The defenders Bilic wanted either wouldn't come or we couldn't afford them...

Of course to be fair to our captain of the last 3 or 4 seasons, Bilic gave Nolan another chance. Nolan has been there and done it. I think yesterday was his last chance saloon but Lanzini isn't ready yet.

Maiga is soon to be on his bike to Saudi it seems and we are linked with a goal scorer from Toulouse for £6m. Goal scoring record looks good but let's be honest here. For £6m we are shopping in the bargain basement once again while being fed CL stories...

AKA ERNIE is getting Nicey style boring with his constant digs at our "penny pinching" owners but he's right isn't he?

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality

I agree, there was a lot of talk - from Bilic as well - about a 'solid base', which frankly was absurd given our capitulation in the second half (actually more than a half) of the season.

I think its fair enough that people are worried about us getting beaten in a very similar fashion two weeks running, and whilst no manager can legislate for the sort of basic errors from the full backs that we've seen, I would hope he's a quick learner.
Strikes me that the last two weeks he hasn't set us up to counter a threat from the opposition, and has taken a mentality that we have the better players so let them worry about us.
Hopefully he'll know now.

Of course you are right Stevie,
The truth is that it is too early to draw any conclusions, good or bad.

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
This thread is nonsense end of.
Yes we need 2 or 3 more players but to suggest Payet and all the other players he left out and I listed below are not Prem class shows a total lack of knowledge.
Also as I said plenty of Prem ciubs have worse squads and two of them have just beaten us easily at home.

All down to the manager I'm affraid.

Again, when in the last 25 years hasn't that been true? What makes now noteworthy in that regard?

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
It is one area I have slight sympathy for Bilic. He comes in to manage a team that's basically been failing in matches for a lot of the past two seasons, yet the club don't seem to want to move any players on (in fact they're signing a bunch on long contracts), and for a long time this Summer everyone seemed to be saying what a great squad he'd inherited. No wonder he's confused.

Not that tables mean anything at this stage, Mex, but yes, we are 9th.

And this time last year, we'd won 1 and lost 2 of our first 3 games and were 11th.

Progress.

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
DON´T PANIC
We have enough quality, I think last year showed that and we beat the Arse.
It is confidence and a new manager with new ways.
We are 9th and we are scoring goals. We have good defenders, but they need sorting out.

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
It does indeed.

But still, the point the earlier poster was making is that the potential is there to do much better. Don't think we're disagreeing!

stewie griffin 11:27 Sun Aug 23
Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
And potential works both ways, this team have shown they have the potential to lose a shit load of games.

And they've achieved that far more regularly than one decent run of form in 2 years.

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
Simple truth is this thread is bollocks!

So you think all the smaller and newly promoted cl6bs have better players and that Payet, Reid, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Jenks, Tomkins, Noble and Obiang are not Prem class?

Yes we could do with a couple more quality additions but the problem is the MANAGER does not know how to organise and set up the team!

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
I agree with SG, those games were a long time ago now. And I don't think many of those were great performances either. In a few matches we managed to have short spells where we overloaded opponents in attack. It proved short-lived and hard to recreate, and I think we have to move on from it now.

White Pony 11:25 Sun Aug 23
Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
Still, at least Bilic writes a nice ES column.

Seriously though, I'd much rather this happens now, at the start of the season when the transfer window is still open. Bilic, if he really is this sophisticated, thinking manager that many seem to believe he is, will surely a) see where we need to improve in terms of our squad and b) realise how to use the squad he has depending on the opposition in front of us.

Worryingly, he did not learn the lessons from last week.

We can't write. Bilic or the team off after 3 games, but at the same time we can't ridicule people who are rightly worried about our last 2 performances. I always said I'd judge Bilic after 10 games rather than get hysterical after a couple of bad results.

We seriously need to buy a bleedin striker though, and one or two quality wide players.

Animal 11:22 Sun Aug 23
Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
Stewie, but surely potential relates to what they COULD do, and first half of last season shows the team COULD do well. And we are stronger now than we were last year.

Not saying we're a great team or squad but I agree the potential is there to do much much better.

Re: Simple truth: we lack quality
There will be an absolute wankfest if we go away at Liverpool and win. The postmortem of yesterday's game rightly has people pissed off, but it also allows several posters to vent their frustrations and talk utter shit, in this case like the opening piece.

We have quality players in our starting XI. We've lost two games on the spin and won one away at Arsenal.

The panic on here sometimes after a defeat mesmerising. I'm not shocked for one minute that we got turned over by a Bournemouth side that have played together in the same system for a while and who're coached by one of the best minds in England, certainly the current best English manager.
